Choosing the Right Website Design Agency

Your website is such an important piece of your business. It’s a part of your brands identity. Your website works as a 24/7 sales tool and we know that it’s an investment for you. Knowing how important it is, you should take the appropriate amount of time and preparation in selecting someone to design or re-design it. Here’s a few tips on what to look for. Most of these actually came from our clients who told us what they liked about us or what made them choose us.

Check Out Their Work

It seems like a common thing to remember, but you’d be surprised how many times we meet with potential clients who started a project with someone else before ever looking at their work. There are lots of things to look for in a portfolio. Take a look at other projects they have completed. You can learn a lot about a company by the different types of projects they have worked on. Are the websites well done with good and clear messaging? Are they easy to use? Do they display well on multiple devices?

Diversity in a portfolio is also a great sign. Have they designed websites for all different types of businesses? When you see a portfolio with all types of site designs in it, it means that agency has a great amount of experience and are trusted by each one of those businesses.

Do Your Homework

Have you taken the time to get a good idea of what you’re looking for in a website design? You don’t always have to be 100% prepared before approaching a web design agency, but it definitely helps. Give some thought on what it is you want the site to do. Should visitors be able to do something specific on it? These little details are what will make yours stand out.

If you want a website that’s going to work for your business, you need to be willing to invest in it. Do your research on pricing and know that good websites aren’t cheap and cheap websites aren’t good. Yes, that’s a phrase that gets used a lot, but it’s perfect.

Pay Attention to the Details

When you’re meeting with a potential design agency, there’s a lot you should pay attention to. These are three of what we feel are really important details.

1.Do they listen to you?

The agency should be experts in their field, but that does not mean they are experts in YOUR field. A good agency will listen to you and the details of your business. With genuine listening comes genuine interest, which then leads to good questions from the agency. Are they speaking over you or actually listening to you?

2. Do they have their own ideas?

This one is asked just about as much as the other three. Once the project is paid for, you are the owner of the website. That means the code, design, any images used, are all yours. The website will actually live and function on our servers but under your ownership.

3. Do they have longevity?

This one says a lot about a company. While we definitely all started from Day 1, there is still something to be said about a company that has been around a while. It means they’re not going anywhere. Once in a while we’re approached by a new client who tells us some story about how they were using a new agency or a single one man shop who just started only to find they are no longer around. That’s not always the case, but it’s definitely something to think about.
